Commercial lighting we install
We work for small and medium businesses and property owners around Geelong, with commercial jobs in central Geelong, Hamlyn Heights, Norlane, Herne Hill and Belmont among others. Typical work includes:
- Office lighting: LED panels and downlights in suspended and plaster ceilings.
- Retail lighting: general lighting, track and spot lighting for displays, and window lighting.
- Warehouse and workshop lighting: LED high bays and battens.
- Common areas: stairwells, corridors, car parks and entries, often with sensors.
- Amenities and wet areas: sealed LED oyster lights rated for moisture and dust.
- Exterior lighting: car park, entry and security lighting. See outdoor lighting installation.
- Switching and control: switches, dimmers, timers and occupancy sensors.
LED upgrades for shops, offices and warehouses
Lighting runs for most of the working day in a business, so old fittings cost more to keep than they first appear. Fluorescent tubes and metal halide high bays use more power than their LED equivalents, lose brightness as they age, and need regular tube, starter and ballast changes.
An LED upgrade replaces the whole fitting, not just the tube. In an office that usually means LED panels in the existing ceiling grid. In a warehouse it means LED high bays, which come on at full brightness straight away. Sealed, dimmable LED oyster lights suit kitchens, amenities and corridors. We confirm light levels and colour with you on one or two sample fittings before the rest are installed.
Signs that an upgrade is due: tubes that flicker or take time to start, fittings that hum, yellowed diffusers, patchy light across the floor, and a growing pile of spare tubes in the storeroom.

Choosing commercial light fittings
The right fitting depends on the work done under it. These are the points we go through with you before anything is ordered:
- Colour. Cool white suits offices, workshops and most retail. Warm white suits hospitality, waiting rooms and anywhere people are meant to relax. Many of the LED fittings we install can be switched between warm white, cool white and daylight on the fitting.
- Glare. Staff at screens need diffused, even light. A bare, bright fitting in the line of sight is tiring over a full day.
- Display. Adjustable track and spot lighting lets a shop re-aim its lights when the layout changes.
- Dust and moisture. Kitchens, wash bays, cool rooms and workshops call for sealed fittings.
- Running hours. Occupancy sensors in storerooms, amenities and corridors stop lights burning in empty rooms. Timers and day-night switches do the same for signs and car parks.
- Matching. Using one fitting type across an area makes later replacements simple and keeps the ceiling consistent.
Exit, emergency and sign lighting
We replace failed exit signs and emergency light fittings, and connect power for illuminated signs and lightboxes installed by your signwriter. If your building has an essential safety measures schedule, tell us what your building manager or fire services contractor has asked for, and we will quote the electrical part of that list.
Shopfront and sign lighting is usually put on a timer or a day-night switch, so it comes on at dusk and goes off at a set hour without anyone having to remember it.
How commercial lighting installation works
- Site visit. We walk the premises, count and identify the existing fittings, and check ceiling type, heights and the switchboard.
- Written quote. The quote lists fittings by area, controls, access equipment and timing.
- Scheduling. We agree when the work happens. Much commercial lighting work is done area by area, or outside trading hours, so the business keeps running.
- Installation. Circuits are isolated one at a time. Old fittings and tubes are removed and taken away.
- Testing and handover. Circuits are tested, sensors and timers are set, and you receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
Not sure what you need? Tell us what is happening and we will talk it through.
Lighting repairs and maintenance for businesses
A dark shopfront or a flickering light over a workstation needs fixing quickly. We replace failed fittings, drivers and switches, trace lighting circuits that trip, and can replace ageing fittings in groups so that the colour and brightness stay consistent across a room. For an electrical fault that stops you trading, we offer 24/7 emergency call-outs.
Many businesses book other jobs for the same visit, such as test and tag or data cabling.

Frequently asked questions
Can you do commercial lighting installation in Geelong outside trading hours?
Yes. Work can be scheduled before opening, after closing or on weekends, and larger jobs can be done one area at a time. After-hours work is quoted separately.
Is it worth upgrading fluorescent lights to LED?
For most businesses, yes. LED fittings use less power for the same light, hold their brightness longer and remove the cost of replacing tubes, starters and ballasts.
Can LED panels go into our existing office ceiling grid?
In most suspended ceilings, yes. LED panels are made to fit standard ceiling grid sizes and replace the old fluorescent troffers in the same positions.
Do you replace exit signs and emergency lights?
Yes, we replace failed exit and emergency light fittings. Routine testing and logbook records for your essential safety measures are arranged through your building manager or fire services contractor.
Do we get a certificate for the work?
Yes. A Certificate of Electrical Safety must be provided for all electrical installation work in Victoria. Keep your copy with your building records.
Will the power be off while you work?
Only the lighting circuit being worked on is switched off at the time. We plan the work with you so that tills, computers and refrigeration stay on.
Do you do common-area lighting?
Yes. We install and repair common-area lighting in stairwells, corridors, car parks and entries, and can report back to the property manager.
Can you add sensors or timers to our existing lights?
Usually, yes. Occupancy sensors, timers and day-night switches can be added to existing lighting circuits, which is often the cheapest way to cut running hours.
Which areas do you cover for commercial lighting?
Most of our commercial lighting jobs are in central Geelong and the northern suburbs, but we cover the whole region, including the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast and Golden Plains.
