Electrician Wyndham Vale: adding power, light and protection
Recent work in our records in Wyndham Vale includes:
- New double power points, in a laundry and outdoors.
- Outdoor LED floodlights.
- A safety switch added at the switchboard, in the form of an RCBO.
- Cabling for a wall-mounted TV.
- Moving an existing security camera to a new position.
Wyndham Vale: a fast-growing suburb beside Werribee
Wyndham Vale is a residential suburb immediately west of Werribee, in the City of Wyndham. Residential development began there in the early 1980s. The council calls it a rapidly expanding suburb and counted 38 per cent more households in 2021 than in 2016. Its other neighbours include Manor Lakes and Mambourin.
Its 2021 Census population was 20,518, in 7,267 private dwellings. Separate houses accounted for 95.8 per cent of homes. The average household held 3.0 people (Victoria: 2.5), and half the residents were 31 or younger. Almost a third of homes (31.4 per cent) were rented.
A house from the suburb's first years is now past 30, the age at which Energy Safe Victoria advises a wiring check. In a younger house the usual question is capacity: enough outlets, light and protected circuits for a full household.

Power points and floodlights for the backyard
When the yard has no outlet where you need one, an extension lead ends up running through a window. The fixes:
- Weatherproof double power points on an outside wall, the garage or the patio, with any exposed cable run in conduit.
- LED floodlights over the driveway, the side path or the back fence, on a switch inside or a sensor.
- More outlets inside, such as a laundry where the washer and dryer share one point on a double adaptor.
Each new outlet and light is tested, and you get a Certificate of Electrical Safety for it. See power point installation and outdoor lighting.

An RCBO: safety switch protection for one circuit
An RCBO puts a circuit breaker and a safety switch (RCD) into one device on the switchboard, covering a single circuit. One half guards the cable against overloads and short circuits. The other half watches for current leaking out, the kind that could hurt someone, and cuts the power within milliseconds.
On a board that already uses circuit breakers and has free space, RCBOs can usually be fitted one circuit after another, with no new board. Replacing the main switchboard is a bigger step, and as prescribed work it has to pass an independent inspection before the power is reconnected.
Circuits not wired through a safety switch get no protection from it. Energy Safe Victoria advises a quarterly press of each test button. See safety switch installation.
Rented houses: checks that owners and property managers book
With almost a third of homes rented, plenty of Wyndham Vale houses have an owner who lives elsewhere. That owner, or the agent managing the house, can book an electrical safety check with us. The electrician works through the switchboard, tests every safety switch, and inspects the wiring and fittings. Smoke alarms can be looked at on the same visit.
We contact the tenants to set a time, and the report goes to the owner or the agent, whichever of you booked. Any repair gets its own quote first and goes ahead only once you approve it. It comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety, a separate document from the check report.
Not sure what you need? Tell us what is happening and we will talk it through.
TV cabling and security cameras
A TV on the wall. A screen on a bracket looks unfinished with leads dangling to the cabinet. On a plasterboard wall we run the cabling inside the cavity and put a power point behind where the screen will hang, so settle the height before any holes are cut. See TV wall mounting and cabling.
Security cameras. A camera aimed at the wrong spot, or blocked by a new pergola, can be moved. That means cable to the new position, a firm fixing, and a check of the picture before we leave. See CCTV for homes.

What sets the price of a Wyndham Vale job
Every Wyndham Vale quote follows a look at the house. The things that move it:
- One storey or two. Cable in a single-storey house mostly travels through the roof space. Reaching a room under a second storey is slower.
- The distance outside. A floodlight above the back door is quicker than one on the far fence.
- Room on the switchboard for a new circuit or an RCBO.
- Brick or plasterboard. Cable disappears into a plasterboard cavity; brick needs chasing or a surface cover.
- The fittings you choose, from the floodlight to the camera.
Booking, after-hours faults and nearby suburbs
Bookings go through 1300 025 555 or the contact form. A picture of the switchboard saves time when a new circuit or an RCBO is involved. You pick the time, and the price is settled before work starts.
The same number reaches our 24/7 emergency call-outs at night and on weekends. Lost power? Look at the neighbours' lights first. A whole street in the dark is a fault for your electricity distributor, the company that owns the poles and wires.
Next door, Werribee has its own page, and so does Manor Lakes, which was part of Wyndham Vale until 2016. The Geelong electrician page shows the wider area we serve.
Frequently asked questions
Electrician Wyndham Vale: can you do a safety check on a rented house?
Yes, for owners and their property managers. We test the switchboard and safety switches, inspect the wiring and fittings, and send a written report. Nothing is repaired until you have approved a quote.
My Wyndham Vale backyard has no power point. Can you add one?
Yes, a weatherproof double power point on the house, the garage or the patio. If the nearest circuit is already busy, the new outlet may need its own circuit from the switchboard.
What is an RCBO, and do I need one?
Think of it as two devices sharing one case: overload protection for the cable and leak protection for people, each covering just one circuit. If some of your circuits have no safety switch, RCBOs are often the simplest way to add one without a new board.
Can you move a security camera to a better spot?
Yes. We run cable to the new position, mount the camera and check the picture. If the new spot needs power that is not there, we tell you before we start.
Wyndham Vale is not in Greater Geelong. Do you still cover it?
Yes. It is in the City of Wyndham and inside our service area, as are Werribee, Werribee South and Manor Lakes. Being outside Greater Geelong makes no difference to the work or the rules it follows.
Is a 1980s Wyndham Vale house due for a wiring check?
Yes. In Energy Safe Victoria's advice, any house past 30 is due a wiring check by a licensed electrician, and 1980s houses passed that point years ago.
The laundry has one power point for two machines. Can you add another?
Yes. A second double power point ends the adaptor juggling. If the dryer shares a busy circuit, it may be better on a circuit of its own, and we check that first.
Can a floodlight come on by itself when someone walks past?
Yes, with a sensor floodlight. It switches on when it detects movement and off again after a set time. We position it to cover the path or driveway, not the neighbour's yard.
