Manor Lakes: part of Wyndham Vale until 2016
Manor Lakes became a suburb in its own right in March 2016; before then it was part of Wyndham Vale. The City of Wyndham calls it a growing suburb, taking in the land between Ballan Road and Greens Road.
The 2021 Census describes a suburb built around families:
- 12,675 people in 4,052 private dwellings;
- 94.8 per cent of homes were separate houses;
- 3.3 people per household on average, against 2.5 across Victoria;
- a median age of 31, seven years below the state figure;
- 7.8 per cent of homes owned outright, against 32.2 per cent for Victoria.
By the council's count, 42 per cent of households were families with children.
Electrician Manor Lakes: what a full household needs from the wiring
Three or more people under one roof means more devices on charge, more screens and more heaters on a cold night. That puts weight on:
- Outlets where they are used: beside beds, at a study desk, along the kitchen bench and in the garage.
- Air and light in bedrooms: a ceiling fan, and better light than one dim fitting.
- Smoke alarms near where everyone sleeps.
- Circuits that cope when several heavy appliances are on together.
- Space on the switchboard for anything new.
See power point installation for the outlets.
Talk to a licensed Geelong electrician (REC 30925).
Ceiling fans, room by room
In a house with children in several rooms, you may want a fan in more than one bedroom. What fitting one involves:
- A solid fixing. A fan moves and carries weight, so it goes on the ceiling framing, not the plaster alone.
- Power to the spot. A fan can often take over an existing centre light point. A fan with its own light usually needs a second switch or a wall controller.
- Control. A wall controller stays where it is put, which suits a child's room better than a remote.
A hard-wired fan is fixed wiring work, so it is certified like any other. See ceiling fan installation.

Smoke alarms in a house full of bedrooms
Every storey needs an alarm by law, and so does each sleeping area, where it meets the rest of the house. Fire services aim higher, recommending alarms throughout: each bedroom, each hallway, each living area. Where children sleep in several rooms, the gap between the two is worth closing.
- A house built after 1 August 1997 must have alarms wired to 240 V mains power, each with a battery as backup.
- If the house was built, or substantially renovated, after 1 May 2014 and needs two or more alarms, they must be linked so that one sounding sets off the rest.
- Photoelectric alarms are the type fire services recommend.
- Test each alarm monthly, as the CFA advises, and replace it once it is 10 years old.
Putting in or swapping a mains-powered alarm is a job the law reserves for a licensed electrician. See smoke alarm installation.

When the heater, the dryer and the kettle run at once
On a winter evening in a full house, a heater, the dryer and the kettle can easily end up running together. A circuit breaker that drops then is doing its job, protecting the wiring from overload. A safety switch is a different device with a different trigger: current leaking out of a faulty appliance, outlet or cable.
Switch off what was running on that circuit, reset the switch once and spread the load. A switch that refuses to stay up, or drops with almost nothing running, points to a fault: leave it down and ring us. See fault finding and repairs.

Garage power, the yard and an EV charger
In the garage, the job might be a second outlet, or a circuit of its own for a freezer or a workbench. Outside, it might be a weatherproof outlet by the barbecue or a light at the front door.
An EV charger is the biggest of these loads. Before quoting we check whether the switchboard has room for its own circuit, whether the incoming supply has enough capacity for it, and how far the cable must run to the parking spot. If the supply needs an upgrade, the request goes to the electricity distributor, and we lodge it for you. See EV charger installation.
How a Manor Lakes booking works
- Call 1300 025 555 or use the form, listing everything you want done, so small jobs can share one visit.
- A phone picture of the switchboard tells us early whether new circuits will fit.
- We agree a day with you and fix the price before any work begins.
- Before we go, it is all tested. For outlets, fans and lights, the Certificate of Electrical Safety reaches you within 30 days.
Burning smells, sparking and power that will not come back on are emergencies: ring the same number, day or night, for our 24/7 emergency call-outs.

Frequently asked questions
Electrician Manor Lakes emergencies at night: who answers?
We do, on 1300 025 555. Our emergency call-outs run 24/7 and reach every street in Manor Lakes. Fire, smoke or someone hurt is a 000 call before anything else.
Was Manor Lakes part of Wyndham Vale?
Yes, until March 2016, when it became a separate suburb. Both are in the City of Wyndham, and we cover both.
How many smoke alarms should a family home in Manor Lakes have?
By law, one per storey and one guarding each sleeping area from the rest of the house. For a family, fire services advise going further: one in every bedroom, every hallway and every living area.
Can you fit a ceiling fan in every bedroom?
Yes. Where a bedroom has a light point, the fan can often use it; where it does not, we run new cable to the spot.
Why does my circuit breaker trip when the heater and the dryer are both on?
Most likely the circuit is overloaded and the breaker is protecting the wiring. Spread the load for now; a separate circuit for the heavy appliance is the longer-term fix, if the board has room.
Can you add a power point beside a bed or at a study desk?
Yes. Tell us where the furniture will sit, so the new point ends up where it is useful and not behind a wardrobe.
Can I charge an electric car at my Manor Lakes home?
Yes. A wall charger runs on a circuit of its own, so we start by checking the switchboard, the incoming supply and the cable run to the parking spot.
Who can fit interconnected smoke alarms?
Hard-wired 240 V alarms are licensed electrician work, whether or not they are linked. Swapping the battery in a battery-only alarm is something you can do yourself.
