TV mounting, EV chargers, smoke alarms and air conditioning for Werribee homes, by CabledIN

CabledIN is a licensed electrician Werribee households can book for TV wall mounting, EV chargers, smoke alarms, rangehoods, fault finding and split system air conditioning. We are a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC 30925) with more than 20 years' experience, and we cover Werribee, Hoppers Crossing next door, Werribee South and nearby Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes.

A TV, a smoke alarm or a rangehood swap is usually one visit. An EV charger or an air conditioner can take longer if the switchboard needs a new circuit. We quote each job after seeing it.

Electrician Werribee: the work we do here

Our Werribee jobs have included:

  • Fault finding when a circuit trips or part of the house has lost power. See fault finding and repairs.
  • Switchboard repairs: damaged switches replaced with combined circuit breaker and safety switch (RCD) protection, and loose connections made safe.
  • EV charger installation, covered below.

We also add double power points where a room never had enough, and mount TVs on the wall with a recessed power point behind the screen and the leads run inside the wall. TV mounting, smoke alarms, rangehoods and air conditioning are covered below.

Werribee homes, from the 1960s to the newest estates

Werribee is in the City of Wyndham, about halfway between Melbourne and Geelong on the Princes Highway. Its rapid growth began in the 1960s, and since the 1990s new estates have been built on greenfield land. At the 2021 Census it had 50,027 people and 19,890 private dwellings, and 85.0 per cent of homes were separate houses.

A house from the early growth years can still have an older switchboard, rewireable fuses or few safety switches, and Energy Safe Victoria advises a wiring check for any house over 30 years old. Newer houses have modern boards but often too few power points, no power behind the TV and no spare circuit for an EV charger.

TV wall mounting in Werribee

Because we are electricians, the bracket, the power and the cables are one job:

  • The bracket is fixed into the studs behind plasterboard, or anchored into brick, never into the plaster alone.
  • A recessed power point goes behind the screen, so the TV sits close to the wall and no lead hangs down.
  • HDMI and data leads run inside the wall through cable entry plates. A solid brick wall has no cavity, so the choice there is a slim cable cover or chasing the wall.

The new power point comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety. More on TV wall mounting and installation.

EV charger installation for Werribee homes

A wall charger draws a large load for hours at a time, so before quoting we check three things: room on the switchboard, the capacity of the supply, and the distance to where the car parks.

  • We put the charger on its own circuit with its own circuit breaker and safety switch, plus an isolating switch beside it, weatherproof outdoors.
  • A full board or an old fuse board usually needs work first.
  • Powercor lists EV chargers among the common reasons to upgrade a home's supply. Only a registered electrical contractor can lodge that request, and we handle it.

Smoke alarms and rangehoods

Smoke alarms. The rules depend on when the home was built. Homes built after 1 August 1997 must have 240 V mains-powered alarms with a backup battery, and homes built or largely renovated after 1 May 2014 that need more than one alarm must have them interconnected. Every alarm should be replaced after 10 years. A third of Werribee homes are rented (33.3 per cent), and owners and property managers can book a smoke alarm check with us. See smoke alarm installation.

Rangehoods. Swapping a rangehood for one of the same type and size is usually a short job. A new style, a power point moved into the cupboard or new ducting makes it bigger. See rangehood installation.

Air conditioning installation in Werribee

We install reverse-cycle air conditioning, one system that heats in winter and cools in summer:

  • Wall-mounted split system for one room or an open-plan living area.
  • Multi-head split system: several indoor units from one outdoor unit, for two or more rooms.
  • Ducted reverse-cycle for the whole home, with zones so you run only the rooms you use.

One licensed team does the whole install: the units, the refrigerant pipework, a dedicated circuit at the switchboard and a weatherproof isolator outside. If the board has no room for the circuit, we tell you when we quote. You receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety and a plumbing Certificate of Compliance. See air conditioning installation.

Power faults and 24/7 emergency call-outs

We take emergency call-outs 24/7 in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee South, Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes. Before you ring, three safe checks:

  1. Is the street out too? Then it is a network fault. Report it to Powercor on 13 24 12. Your bill names your distributor.
  2. Only your house? If a safety switch has tripped, unplug what is on that circuit and reset it once. If it will not reset, call us.
  3. Anything hot, sparking or giving a tingle? Keep away. For a tingle from a tap or appliance, call Powercor on 13 24 12 straight away. For fire, call 000.

What affects the cost, and how booking works

Each job is quoted after we see it. What moves the price:

  • the wall or ceiling, and how far the cable runs;
  • whether the switchboard has room for a new circuit;
  • whether the supply needs an upgrade for an EV charger or a larger air conditioner;
  • the parts you choose, such as the bracket, charger or alarm.

To book, call 1300 025 555 or use the contact form. You approve the quote before work starts, and every new or altered circuit is tested and certified.

Little River, Lara and the rest of our area

Towards Geelong, we also cover Little River and Lara. For Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast and Golden Plains, see our Geelong electrician page.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an electrician Werribee residents can call after hours?

Yes. CabledIN takes 24/7 emergency call-outs in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee South, Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes on 1300 025 555. If the whole street has lost power, report it to Powercor on 13 24 12. If anyone is in danger or there is a fire, call 000.

Do you cover Hoppers Crossing, Werribee South, Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes?

Yes. Each has its own page with what homes there typically need, and the services on this page are available in all four.

What affects the cost of mounting a TV on the wall?

It depends on the wall, the bracket, whether you want a power point behind the screen, and whether the cables can run inside the wall. Brick walls and high positions take more work than plasterboard. We quote after seeing the wall.

Can you hide the TV cables inside the wall?

On a plasterboard wall, yes. The leads run inside the cavity through cable entry plates, with a recessed power point behind the screen. A solid brick wall has no cavity, so the options are a slim cable cover or chasing the wall.

Can you install a home EV charger at my Werribee house?

Yes. We check the switchboard, the supply and where the car parks, then quote. The charger goes on its own protected circuit with an isolating switch beside it, and you receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

Do hard-wired smoke alarms need an electrician?

Yes. In Victoria, 240 V hard-wired smoke alarms must be installed and replaced by a licensed electrician. Anyone can change a battery. Every alarm, of any type, should be replaced after 10 years.

What affects the cost of replacing a rangehood?

A swap for one of the same type and size is the simplest job. A different style, a power point moved into the cupboard or flue, or new ducting adds time. We quote after seeing the kitchen.

Do you install split system air conditioners in Werribee?

Yes. We install wall-mounted split systems, multi-head split systems and ducted reverse-cycle systems. Each goes on its own circuit with a weatherproof isolator outside.

Is Werribee part of Geelong?

No. Werribee is in the City of Wyndham, about halfway between Melbourne and Geelong on the Princes Highway. The same Victorian electrical rules apply in both.

My power is out but the street has power. What should I do?

Check the switchboard. If a safety switch has tripped, unplug the appliances on that circuit and reset it. If it will not reset, or nothing has tripped, your own supply may be damaged, so call a licensed electrician.
